The Wedding of Leanne & Rhys
20th December 2020
This no-fuss, understated Christmas wedding was absolutely gorgeous and led to a party to write home about!
The existing beauty of Tower Hill Barns was perfect for this couple’s relaxed winter wedding just a few days before Christmas
Prioritising three things: good food and wine, good entertainment and dance-party-ready company for their wedding, this Welsh couple from Merthyr Tydfil, pared down their expenses and focused on having the time of their lives. And let us tell you, what a party it was! Although Leanne says she had to be quite considered with invites, their guest list [80 daytime guests and an additional 20 evening guests] was just the right amount for partying purposes: a full dance floor and the perfect atmosphere throughout!

The Vibe:
Rhys proposed to Leanne over a baked-bean sunset dinner by Loch Lomond on their summer camping trip. And so, in keeping with their laid-back, go-with-the-flow vibe, they opted for our perfectly natural ambience for their winter wedding.
“We wanted to get married as soon as possible and we had to stick to a budget. I tried to plan based on what I remembered about weddings I’d been to myself. I realized I remembered very little about details, but I did remember how I felt at each wedding. The “theme” [which was more about embracing the time of year and the THB decor than anything else] felt like a natural fit, and Tower Hill Barns is twinkly and atmospheric without any help from us!”
Their beautiful, festive, hunter-green winter wedding championed our favourites: relaxed vibes, fabulous food, and awesome company. They kept the decor simple and classic, our fairy lights and candles delivering maximum impact to the December setting. And bridesmaids in complementary shades of dark green and navy, a nice touch to the festive time of year. Simple green and white flowers in a rustic and unstructured style completed the decor. With Leanne’s bridesmaid making a fabulous simple, three-tiered naked cake with eucalyptus leaves for decoration.

4-Months To Plan A Wedding:
Taking advantage of the season, Rhys and Leanne benefited from seasonal offers and were lucky to secure their first choice of suppliers.
“We came to visit THB in August and I think we knew when we walked up the drive that this was our dream….dream home, never mind wedding venue! We met with Jo who felt like an old friend and this just firmed up our decision in a heartbeat. It was a gut instinct. It’s not just a beautiful place visually (although that it definitely is!). It has feeling. I knew Tower Hill Barns would have the relaxed vibe sorted.”
Four months later they tied the knot in an indoor ceremony here with us, having an amazing share-plate style Christmas dinner, and epic music, and danced the night away with a DJ, bongo drums, and epic sax player keeping them company well into the night.
“On wedding Day, the candles were lit, petals had been laid and our song started to play: ‘My Girl’ by John Legend. The ceremony went beautifully, and the registrar did an amazing job to help settle the nerves and break the ice and make everyone chuckle. Which was great because one of us couldn’t stop crying (Rhys).”
The Photography:
After the ceremony, their guests had welcome drinks while they took a stroll around the grounds and took some time to decompress, having their photos taken at the same time.
“We chose documentary style photography for this reason and we are so happy with the results. We made our decision to go with Matt from Blue Sky Junction Photography based on his Instagram and one very easy phone conversation. I didn’t appreciate how important this decision was until after our wedding, but I consider it the best planning decision we made! I’m so happy we chose a photographer who was a bit of us. He was a massive part of our day and I felt so much love for him in that moment as he captured everything.”

The Food:
With the chef’s help and advice, Leanne and Rhys served a two-course, sharing plate meal: platters served to the table with luxurious meat and vegetables, followed by a selection of miniature desserts.
“Because we were getting married so close to Christmas (and we LOVE Christmas), we felt our food choice was obvious. So we trusted the chefs to create their version of Christmas Dinner. And wow did they deliver. The room went silent the food was that good, and I’m still getting compliments on how beautiful the food was.”
The Farm House Wedding Accommodation
Falling into bed at the end of the night, exhausted from partying and dancing all night, Leanne says having wedding accommodation on-site was the best thing. Not to mention the amazing showers! Waking up to have breakfast with their nearest and dearest just made the magic last a little longer.
Because a lot of our guests travelled from quite far (South Wales and surrounds), we really took advantage of the local accommodation close-by too. THB provided us with recommendations for accommodation and taxis (which we included on our wedding invites) and it made the process very easy for their family and friends.
The couple went on honeymoon to California in September. They flew into San Francisco and then road tripped down the coast to finish in LA before a quick trip to Vegas for their final stop.
