Winter Weddings

Enchanting winter weddings in North Wales

Winter is the most gorgeous season here in North Wales, spinning us spellbinding scenes of ice-laced hedgerows and drawing us together as the darker evenings close in. Even without a sugar-dusting of snow that we all secretly hope for, a winter wedding lit by gently burning candles and draped string lights and filled with the mellow clink of a warm winter cocktail is a magical experience.

This soft, honeyed ambience is unique to Tower Hill Barns. Our luxurious and rustic barn nestled in the Welsh countryside glitters during the colder months and is warmed further by the best hospitality, food and drink that North Wales has to offer. We’ve blended indoor and outdoor spaces that can be enjoyed equally, even on a crisp winter’s day, meaning we’re made for winter weddings.

As the seasons turn to winter, Tower Hill Barns becomes the very epitome of cwtch. The honeyed stone and warm oak, when bathed in candlelight and adorned in fairy lights, transform the venue into an intimate and relaxing space, where everyone is made to feel at home.

With indoor and outdoor spaces blended through crackling fires and large floor-to-ceiling windows, you’re able to craft the ambience you’ve always dreamt of.

If you’re looking for a venue that gives you the feeling of a warm embrace, you’ve found it.

Accented with the glittering of hundreds of candles, the converted Old Barn is a romantic setting for your ceremony. It’s a space that’s incredibly intimate – especially in the darker months – welcoming up to 120 guests with space for a harpist, string quartet or acoustic guitar.

Following your ceremony, you’ll be welcomed into our bar and oak-framed dining hall – a wonderful, lofty, double-height space – where your guests will be waiting to share their first meal with you as the newlyweds. The tinkling of glasses and cutlery, and the laughter of your friends and family as the evening takes hold, are all elevated by this gorgeous space. Whilst floor to ceiling windows means you’re witness to the changing of the light as the evening creeps in across the hills from the warmth of the dining hall.

Speaking of food–it is our love language. We know how it draws people together and keeps them close; one of the many reasons a winter wedding with great food and impeccable hospitality in beautiful surroundings is such a wonderful experience.

Once darkness has fallen, you’ll find the twinkle of starry nights calling. Because what better opportunity than to weave your incredible wedding day experience into the remarkable splendour and landscape that the Vale of Llangollen, within an AONB, and its protected Dark Skies have to offer.

Although Wales might not have the best reputation for perfect weather – we’ve got you covered, literally, with a combination of underfloor heating, outdoor coverings, and of course, our cosy Outdoor Bar to make sure your day isn’t dependent on a dry spell.

In the evening, your family and friends can gather around the firelight, beneath a blanket of stars and with rum-spiked hot apple cider in hand. We’ll drape throws over chilly shoulders, increase the tempo of the music and enhance the mood lighting. There are marshmallows to toast, cushion-lined seating and heaters to keep you cosy as you celebrate an evening of conviviality.

And in the bar, our mixologists craft liquid warmth, with new twists on old winter favourites; think spiced oranges, cinnamon and cloves, and rich velvet chocolate against sharp winter raspberries. Hearty, comforting and luxurious, our drinks make an utterly gorgeous pairing with winter wedding celebrations.

But of course, no wedding is complete without the space and freedom to dance – and this is where the converted barn transforms into your dance floor. Our Bose speaker system pumps out the perfect vibe– something a bit heavier, something a bit mellower, an ‘80s cheese-fest, a banging night in Ibiza or traditional and classical – this space has seen it all and it’s your chance to make it your own.

Styling your winter wedding theme

We offer one of North Wales’ most incredible winter wedding venues with beauty and decor already accounted for. A touch of detail, from fabric textures to florals, twinkling lights and a pop of colour if desired, is all that’s needed in this minimalistic space and lends itself well to the atmospheric photography style of a winter wedding date.

That said, winter weddings are the perfect opportunity to go royal with a bold colour palette, incorporating as much glam as you like. For an easy go-to mix of winter wedding style ideas, opt for colours like navy blues, rich burgundies, and forest greens, with eclectic metallic accents in gold and silver. Deeper, richer colours tend to be warmer and more sumptuous, so a little velvet – used sparingly! – can really set your colour scheme off.

And though we love to see those dark bold jewel colours contrasted against the frost and the snow – we know they aren’t for everyone. For those of you wanting to lean into the earthy, boho vibe, a neutral palette layered with hessian, beige, stone and creams can create an understated but equally luxurious feel. A rustic rural wedding offers unparalleled versatility; you’ll struggle to go wrong if you stick to keeping things warm and layered.
