The Wedding of Charlotte & Elgan

A blooming lovely indie wedding for this Manchester couple who truly brought the energy for an all-night dance party

Indie vibes & all-the-fun for this couple who made the most of our rustic, outdoor wedding space and a crowd enthused dance party that went on till the wee hours of the morning!

Charlotte & Elgan, from Manchester, planned the most perfectly relaxed wedding! It was a gorgeous and intimate, family affair. With the father of the bride having picked out the dress (yes, really, and it was a stunner!). The mother of the making the couples’ traditional fruit wedding cake, and wearing a black Whistles dress (a little untraditional but she owned it and we loved it). And Welsh cover band SoundCity single-handedly responsible for kick-starting a crowd enthused dance party that went on till the wee hours of the morning–wait till you see the photos!

The Vibe:

We had visited a few barns in Cheshire but just knew Tower Hill Barns was for us. We wanted a laid back feel and to make the most of the outside area and the setting and THB just had it all.

The day started with a glass of fizz, obviously! I’d not had much sleep the night before (an accumulation of nerves and my 5-month-old daughter keeping me up) but once the fizz was flowing and the tunes were on, my bridesmaids and I were well into the swing of things.

The Outdoor Ceremony:

We got married outside under the bridge, it’s such a lovely setting! We fell in love with the outdoor space when we first viewed it, so we were pleased the weather was nice enough to allow this.

I walked down the aisle to an indie song called Bloom by the Paper Kites. It was the first gig we went to together and the words are beautiful: “…In the morning when I wake, And the sun is coming through, Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness, And you fill my head with you…”

The Food

The food was amazing! We didn’t want a traditional three-course sit-down meal. So instead we opted for canapés during the drinks reception. We had an acoustic singer and guitarist, Jonny Daniel, during the reception. And then a BBQ sirloin of Welsh beef with Moroccan couscous, garlic potatoes and roast veg. The meat was served and guests could help themselves to sides and fresh bread. So many of our guests said how good the food was!

The Dance Party

We had a Welsh cover band, SoundCity, who were fab! They did a couple of sets and were really interactive with the guests. They had everyone up and dancing and even let some of our friends have a go on the guitar and drums! We hadn’t planned a first dance, but our best man insisted on it. We danced to My Girl, by The Temptations (which of course he picked) and had a lot of fun with our flower girl joining in.

We partied the night away back at the house until the VERY early hours of the morning!! Some report I didn’t even go to bed 😉 It was nice to be able to stay on-site with our closest friends, and breakfast the next day was amazing.

The Back Story

Elgan took me away for a weekend to Whitby (very glam!!!) He planned a walk that involved climbing down to the base of a beautiful and secluded waterfall called Falling Foss. It was a crisp and cold winters day so there was no one around but the two of us. As we approached it he turned to me and asked me to close my eyes. Upon opening them he was down on one knee with a beautiful engagement ring. He whisked me off to the pub where all my family were waiting as a surprise. We celebrated all weekend!

Elgan sprained his ankle five days before the wedding (in the pub!) and was unable to wear shoes in the lead up to the big day. It was touch and go if we would get his wedding shoes on but thankfully he did!
