Bask in a summer wedding in the heart of North Wales countryside
Summer weddings are for the sun worshippers; for the couples who’ll stay out until the sun’s set, happily basking beneath a cotton-candy-coloured sky with a thirst-quenching cocktail in hand. Stretching out into long, golden-hour evenings of laughter and music, with seriously good food and drink in even better company, summer wedding celebrations at Tower Hill Barns take full advantage of our spectacular rural setting.
We offer the flexibility of holding your wedding ceremony both indoors and out, giving you the opportunity to welcome the warm summer breeze and sunshine into the heart of your ceremony. Beneath the Old Railway Bridge, you can say your vows in our stunning outdoor ceremony setting, clad with oak and framed by the sandstone arch of the bridge.
Summer is the season heavy with colour and big bold scents – and our gardens have more than enough to offer. Our spacious oak gazebo is set amongst our wildflower meadow, bordered by flower beds of lavender, trellises of climbing roses, and olive trees that hint at Mediterranean vibes. The outdoor ceremony area is countryside romance at its finest and comfortably accommodates up to 150 of your closest friends and family. This sun-trap provides an intimate and gorgeous setting nestled in the heart of our grounds.
After the ceremony, gather on the terrace with a glass of something fresh and sweet as you indulge in canapes and conviviality. Toast the newlyweds with speeches held outside as you soak up the last of the day’s warmth. And on the rolling lawns, both kids and adults can play games long into the evening, blending shouts of laughter with the beats playing through our Bose speakers or from your live music entertainment.
As the evening fades to the dusky twilight, you’re free to wander the grounds and explore our gardens, taking in the breathtaking countryside scenery for golden hour wedding portraits. Or drink in and appreciate our Welsh landscape from the terrace as you celebrate your first dance together as newlyweds beneath the glow of string lights. We’ll have the firepit ready (just add marshmallows and blankets) to keep a little bit of the Welsh sun in you as the party heats up.
But we can’t talk about a summer wedding without talking about food! As the season of abundance, we have some great suggestions for fabulous summer menus, with plenty of delicious seasonal produce available.
From canapés of crab cakes with ginger, coriander and garlic aioli, and king-prawn tempura, to small plates of smoked salmon cannelloni with herbed cream cheese, micro basil, and caviar. Or classics like Parma ham croquettes and crowd favourites such as the confit shredded duck salad with Asian slaw and our garlic & rosemary marinated Welsh lamb with crispy leg bonbon and dauphinoise potatoes, wedding food here with us is a delight that’s talked about long after the wedding day has passed.
And all that complemented by summer-inspired cocktails, of course! Crushed strawberry gins, cherry mojitos with fresh lime wedges, a grapefruit & rosemary cooler with Bombay Sapphire, and chilled cucumber and elderflower prosecco offer punchy summer flavours and vibrant colours for a gorgeous wedding day spent on the terrace. For those more interested in beers and real ales, we’ve got all your crowd pleasers plus ciders, craft lager, and craft ale.
Styling your summer wedding theme
If a summer wedding is on the cards, you’ll find there’s plenty to work with. For those who love strong and daring colours inspired by nature this season, terracotta and burnt umber offer a unique twist on classic wedding styles with a nod to the Mediterranean, while mauves, mint greens, or even bold blocky canary yellow pair for an eclectic and vibrant colour scheme.
For something a little more minimal during all this riot of summer colour, you could easily opt for neutral tones of fresh, clean cotton-white, charcoal accents, creams, copper blush and pastel purples, for timeless elegance. To meld a more modern palette with a traditional wedding look, accent your scheme with sprays of in-season Welsh flowers – we’re thinking peonies, roses, deep lilac or sugared almond hoary stocks with sprigs of sweetpea, lavender and Achellia, or little button dots of Nigella.
