The Atmospheric Outdoor Wedding of Rach and Rich Has Been Featured on Brides Up North

It’s not often you get to tie the knot outside in the middle of a thunderstorm. But that’s exactly what happened for these two on their wedding day back in May 2017.

Under UK law you’re not permitted to continue with a ceremony outdoors if it is raining or starts to rain before the ceremony begins. But as this newlywed couple experienced, inadvertently circumventing this rule due to sheer bad timing (… err, could that be, incredible timing), as luck would have it it’s not entirely impossible!

Having chosen a wedding date in the hopes of nice weather, Rach and Rich’s outdoor wedding in the May of 2017 took an unexpected turn when the skies opened and let down their goods just minutes before Rach was due to make her way down the aisle.

The stormy atmospheric wedding of Rach and Rich at Tower Hill Barns in May 2017

Although the heavens did their best to put a dampener on their day, their atmospheric wet weather wedding (with a blend of blush & copper colours mixed with a rustic twist to complement our venue) was the perfect storm.

From a thunder filled ceremony that added a little background noise to the exchanging of their vows, to moody outdoor wedding photos under the shelter of their umbrella, they absolutely loved it!

Ditching wedding norms like cutting the cake and speeches, and doing away with the traditional first dance memento, Rach and Rich rocked the casual vibes. Keen to do things their own way, their wedding theme was a self-described need for “laid back” with ‘great food, booze, and music.’

The couple’s main focus was on ensuring their guests enjoyed themselves. As well as live music, this couple went all out with sparklers, beer pong, and even some Bruno Mars marryoke.

[For those of you not up to speed on the happenings of marryoke; it’s a wedding (or event) music video that’s filmed during the day with the bride and groom and their guests. You choose the song, your guests mime along, and it’s edited to look like you’re all singing in real life!]

Bride Rach rocked not one, but two dresses – a lace back, fitted, full-length dress during the day, and a full-length, backless, beaded dress for the evening party! Let us just say; two dresses is the dream! And in lieu of the typical suit wedding attire, Rich went with a relaxed (yet smart) jacket and jeans combo.
