Our special day…
Emma and Justin Pierce-Kemp were married with us at Tower Hill Barns, outside under the gorgeous old railway bridge, on 6th July 2018. Reminiscent of their gloriously sunny proposal in the hills of Cheshire, the bride and groom from Farndon, said ‘I Do’ on a beautiful summer’s day.
If pastels, delicate lace and gorgeous florals (including a stunning flower arch) is your thing, then you’re going to want to read on. Emma & Justin’s outdoor summer wedding is full of romance and whimsy with a magical ‘golden hour’ sunset backdrop. .
On a lovely sunny day in September, Justin and I went for a walk up Bickerton Hills with our dog. The setting was complete with a picnic, a bottle of bubbly, and of course a gorgeous ring. Although too bad Justin walked 10 steps ahead of me the whole time up the hill – it must have been the nerves!
Why Tower Hill Barns?
We fell in love with Tower Hill Barns as soon as we saw it. We’d been to see a few venues and Tower Hill Barns was the only one to make me cry. We wanted a relaxed atmosphere, an outside ceremony and exclusive use of the venue and it ticked every box and more. We knew our guests would love it as much as we did, and Jo and Toni couldn’t have been more helpful on the open day so we couldn’t wait to start planning our wedding with them.
The Big Day
For me the big day started the night before in the gorgeous farmhouse, where we had invited our families to have a meal that was very kindly prepared by the excellent chefs at Tower Hill Barns.
Waking up to a glorious day, and seeing the sun shining, was so exciting! The morning was relaxed with a cup of tea and a good natter with everyone. Soon hair and make-up started arriving and I loved getting ready with the girls in the make-up room, drinking some fizz and having bacon butties.
The bridesmaids wore vintage pink dresses to match the colour scheme of our day.
Hearing our guests arrive ready for the ceremony was lovely, and it was absolutely beautiful once the string quartet started to play.
The ceremony under the bridge couldn’t have been more perfect. I walked down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D played by the Carlton Ensemble String Quartet, and as soon as Justin turned around to see me he started to cry. The ceremony went without a hitch, apart from my veil falling out halfway through, but it didn’t matter!
Food, Speeches, & the Evening Do
We had so many compliments on the wedding breakfast from our guests. We had an Asian duck salad to start, following by Welsh Lamb, and ‘his and hers’ desserts of a chocolate and hazelnut torte and a lemon meringue tart.
Speeches followed the wedding breakfast and our guests enjoyed a fun sweepstake of ‘How long they would last for…’ One guest won a whopping £75, which I presume was spent at the bar later!
We kicked off the evening celebrations with the tradition of our first dance, sharing a moment to John Legend’s All Of Me. Our band, Lady and the Tramps, then started and our I’m happy to say our guests didn’t stop dancing all night!
We took a short break after the wedding to wind down and relax, although we couldn’t stop talking about our day; we were on such a high! Then later in the year we went to Dubai and Thailand for our honeymoon.
Tips for other couples
We did have a few hiccups during the day (including my brother turning up late, uninvited guests, and a rogue veil) but Jo and the THB team dealt with everything so well. So if I could give one piece of advice – don’t stress the small things.
Honestly, if I could go back to the wedding planning stage before our wedding, I would tell myself to not be so concerned with every little detail. On the day it really didn’t matter, and no one notices anyway!
My stunning wedding dress was from Elizabeth Louise Bridal, the bridesmaid dresses were by Little Mistress, the boys suits were from Moss Bros, and hair and makeup was from Hair by Vic and Quintessence Beauty. Our wedding flowers were by Rock and Meadow, the wedding cake by Piggy’s Pantry in Farndon, decorations by Uplit Event Hire and The Carlton Ensemble string quartet.
