The Wedding of Hannah & Tristan
September 2021
A day full of rustic vibes, sunflowers & ‘something blue’ for this couple’s big day following an epic mountain top proposal surrounded by the sunshine and breath-taking views of Kos, Greece.
Hannah and Tristan’s search for an amazing wedding venue in a beautiful location with *all* the rustic vibes was complete the moment they discovered Tower Hill Barns. Falling head over heels all over again, they married in a beautiful church ceremony in September 2021 before joining us here at the Barns to celebrate in style!
Theirs was a perfectly coordinated autumn wedding with an uplifting summer feel c/o an abundance of cheerful sunflowers incorporated into the floral arrangements – a touching tribute to the groom’s late sister.

When Hannah and Tristan began their search for the perfect wedding venue they were ecstatic to discover that their wish lists were perfectly aligned (always helps!). They each wanted a wedding venue with friendly personable staff, a beautiful location and a rustic vibe. Perhaps most importantly, they were in agreement that they absolutely did not want to marry amongst the hustle and bustle of a hotel!
“Tower Hill Barns had it all and from the very first viewing, Tristan and I fell in love, both with the venue and with the wonderful staff who made us feel right at home”.
A Theme With True Meaning
Hannah & Tristan’s colour palette of sunflower yellow and blue (the couple’s favourite colour) was beautifully incorporated into every aspect of their big day. Hannah’s bridesmaids donned fabulous matching floor length dresses in an ice blue hue. While the groomsmen looked very dapper indeed in Navy blue suits, complete with sunflower buttonholes to match the grooms unusual blue cheque wedding suit. This wedding was perfectly coordinated from start to finish, right down to the Groomsmen’s matching yellow socks!
“It was incredibly important to us to incorporate sunflowers into the day in honour of Tristan’s late sister who loved them. The wonderful staff at Carol Anne’s Florist took the brief seriously and executed it beautifully, creating floral arrangements adorned with sunflowers, forget-me-knots and hydrangeas. Not only did it look beyond beautiful and encapsulate our colour palette perfectly, it was a lovely way to ensure Tristan’s sister was part of the ceremony although she sadly could not be there in person.”
A Simple, Sweet Wedding Cake
Hannah and Tristan’s simple, elegant sunflower embellished cake from Cake Chester took pride of place in the main dining hall for all their guests to see. In a break with tradition, they decided to go for a single-tiered cake, which they cut together and cupcakes for their guests to indulge in. The cakes were both beautiful and delicious, they went down a treat!
Rave-Worthy Wedding Food
Attending the food taster experience ahead of our wedding at Tower Hill Barns was amazing, although we still struggled to decide our final wedding menu as it was all phenomenal and delicious. Picking only one option per course was almost impossible!
In the end, we settled on the duck salad to start, a choice of lamb (in homage to myself & Tristan’s love of lamb) or a vegetarian aubergine dish for the main and a mix of crème brûlée and apple tarte tatin for dessert. It was delicious – the wedding breakfast totally exceeded our (high) expectations and went down an absolute dream with our guests! The cocktails were also an absolute hit – we have the bar bill to prove that the espresso martinis were especially popular!
“Our guests all raved that THB served THE BEST food they’ve ever had at a wedding – which we loved to hear, we knew it was going to be good, but maybe we just didn’t realise quite HOW good it was going to be!”
The good cop, bad cop routine
We decided to have the speeches between the main and the dessert, just to keep our guests waiting in eager anticipation a little longer! The bride’s speech was very much the best (even if I do say so myself, haha!)
Tristan’s two best men also gave great, engaging speeches – as Tristan preempted, they decided to play ‘good cop, bad cop’ with one kind and heartfelt and the other -ahem- not so kind and heartfelt, but Tristan was forced to eat his words after foretelling them the wrong way round! (It’s always the quiet ones!)
A Free-styled First Dance
Our first dance took place inside the beautiful Old Barn to Sarah Berellis ‘I Choose You’, there was no practising beforehand, we just went with the flow and somehow (thankfully) it went perfectly – we even managed a lift or two (How’s that for free-styling?!).
The Perfect Photographer
Tristan and I chose our photographer in a fairly unusual way, we both secretly made a list of our top 10 photographers and miraculously Dave came out on top for both of us, so that was it – decision made! It was probably one of the easiest decisions we made and it also turned out to be one of the best!
Honeymooning In Santorini
Following the wedding Hannah and Tristan jetted off for a magical honeymoon in Santorini full of hiking, boat trips and of course plenty of chilling by the pool. (We’re not jealous at all).
Words Of Wisdom
Sleep in your own bed! We stayed in an Airbnb and I (Hannah) slept awfully the night before the wedding, it was probably the nerves but if you have the option of being at home, in your comfort zone, then I definitely would!
Take a few minutes to yourselves. “On the day, make sure you find some time just to savour the experience together, it really does go so quickly, and surprisingly you don’t see or talk to each other as much as you would expect. Your guests will all be living their best lives, so do what feels right and let the wonderful staff at THB worry about the hosting!”
Book Transport in Advance. As beautiful as the countryside location is, it is just that – a countryside location – so make sure guests have taxis booked well in advance and take advantage of the lovely local accommodation in nearby Llangollen for a hangover with a view!
